Why did you start Wild & Free Jewelry
My etsy shop actually started on complete accident. I've always been really obsessed with feathers and one day I discovered that ebay not only sold amazing feathers, but that they were well priced. I ended up purchasing a lot with no idea what I was going to use them for. The jewelry making started with single feather necklaces on leather string that I spontaneously made and decided to show off at a friends jewelry show. The necklaces were such a success that I decided to start using my skill for photography and began listing them on Etsy (an example of one of my favorite first pieces, called Capturing the Wild is shown here:
http://www.etsy.com/transaction/43507262). Once this happened, creating new and unique pieces became my obsession. I wanted to offer people a different type of jewelry line that stood above the feather trend and not only challenged their idea of fashion but encouraged them to be wild & free in all aspects of life.
#1 inspiration
I tend to find inspiration in a lot of different aspects of my life. Initially, I drew from my cultural Native American upbringing as well as my parent's ability to capture this culture in their artwork and lifestyle. However, outside of my friends and family, I consistently find myself drawing from lines like Free People and Spell for ideas on jewelry pieces as well as photo shoots and styling.
Favorite place
My favorite place, by far is the beach. I would never be able to live away from the ocean. My heart definitely belongs to the sea.
One thing you can't live without
Besides the ocean, I would have to say music. I probably spend eighty percent of my day listening to music whether its in my car or from my computer. If that was suddenly taken away I don't know how I would function.
Who is the Wild & Free girl to you
Good question. It's hard to choose just a few traits that would define a true Wild & Free girl to me. I would have to say, ideally this girl would be free spirited and confident in every aspect of her life. Definitely a dreamer but one that made an effort to follow those dreams, and understood the importance of living in the moment and not taking things for granted. Of course, she would also have to have killer style and originality when it came to fashion and the ability to encourage others to express themselves in a similar way.
